I was first asked to create a piece of artwork for "Uncle Ronnie" back in October 2016. Recently, his niece got in touch again, this time asking me to make a card to celebrate his 80th birthday.
"I'm flying to the UK in June", she wrote. "His birthday isn't until September, but I'd love to be able to give him his card in person if I can".
She sent me a couple of photographs of the two of them together. Apparently, whenever she visits the UK, they always spend time at Kenwood in Hampstead, North London, so she asked if I could include Kenwood House and its beautiful grounds in the background of the card.
I chose the photograph above, which I felt would work best, and set about creating a special card for the occasion. My customer was excited about seeing her uncle again, and readily acknowledged how lucky she is to have such a special relationship with her mum's brother. She was equally excited to see the card I had made for him, and was happy to pose with it when she came to collect it.
I showed them both dressed in their "winter woollies", just as they were in the photographs she had shared with me. Kenwood House features in the background, and I added a gold number 80 to mark Uncle Ronnie's special birthday.
In the meantime, my customer made it to London and enjoyed her customary outing to Kenwood with Uncle Ronnie on the very first day of her trip. The photograph at the bottom of this post shows them together there, proudly holding his special birthday card, a lovely way to celebrate his milestone birthday.
