A Long Time Coming

A new customer wrote to me telling me that she was looking for a really special card for her parents golden wedding anniversary. She wanted to know if I could make something based on some photos of her parents. She sent me various pictures of the couple on their wedding day, some of which were very blurry, but I managed to see what they wore on their big day well enough to create a new portrait of the two of them together.
I carefully cut out the details of the bride's veil and copied the beautiful colours in her bouquet. The groom, I noted, had a white kippa (skullcap) and wore a carnation in his lapel. Apparently white carnations represent pure love and good luck! I added a soft golden background and a gold number 50 to marked the number of years the couple have been married.
The card took a long, long time to reach its destination but my customer was really pleased with it when it finally arrived. "It's gorgeous, really excited to give it to them!" she wrote to me. "They'll be so excited to see it!"

A Wedding and a Golden Wedding

Sophie and Benzi got married back in June. She is from England and he is American. Sophie's sister sent me a bunch of photos from their beautiful wedding and asked me to create "a better late than never card" for the couple.
They got married under a beautiful white framed chuppah which was decorated with lots of greenery and flowers. I showed just a small part of the chuppah behind the couple, focusing instead on the bride in her stunning dress and the groom smartly dressed in his blue suit.
My customer loved the card. "Wow Lisa, I love it. It's just perfect. Thanks so much."
Another customer wrote to me saying "I am in need of your card services again."  His parents were soon to be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and he wanted me to make them a nice card to mark the occasion. I made his mum a card for her 70th birthday and dad got one too when he turned 75.
This time my customer sent me a copy of his parent's black and white wedding photo. I carefully copied the bride's wedding dress and bouquet and the groom's black suit and big 1970s bowtie! I made the background gold and added a gold number 50 to marked the number of years they have been married.
I hope they liked their card.

Dalia and Noach

A new customer who has been following my blog for a while contacted me and asked me to make a special card for her parent's upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. "I follow and carefully read all your posts!" she wrote to me. I was happy to hear that I have an avid reader. She sent me this wonderful photo of her parents on their wedding day back in 1971 and decided on an extra large card for their big day. "I think a Golden Anniversary is THE occasion to go BIG" she wrote to me.
I carefully recreated the photo of the young couple out of paper, adding the lace details of the bride's sleeve, the ribbon around the red rose that she is holding and the white handkerchief sticking out the groom's jacket pocket. I included a gold number 50 to mark their special anniversary. My customer asked me to simply write the couple's names and the date of their anniversary at the bottom of the card, in the style of a wedding invitation.
She was delighted with the end result. "I picked up the card - it's fabulous! Thank you for your craftsmanship." she wrote to me.

The Perfect Present in These Times

There are some orders that I make that I know that I am just not going to create again in the same format. A friend asked me to make a card for her parents upcoming golden wedding anniversary. She wanted to show the whole family on the card, so we agreed that it should be an extra large card. It was only when the photos started coming in of each member of the family that I truly realised the enormity of this project! Let's just say it took me quite some time to create this card. Next time I am asked to portray a large family I will make it a large picture, not a card.
Having said all that, I enjoyed creating each little papercut person. I know some members of the family quite well, so it was fun to create their paper likeness.
The card was extremely well received and my customer told me that her parents were quite emotional when they saw it. The extended family have not been able to meet for quite some time now due to Covid-19, so my card was the group shot that they so desired.
I guess it was worth the hours of work after all!
My customer wrote me the most wonderful review:
"Lisa is amazing... We ordered a card for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect present in these times."

Cheers for 50 years

A customer contacted me with a request for an anniversary card for her parents. They were soon to be celebrating their Golden Wedding (50th) anniversary. She wanted an extra large card that the couple's children could all sign. She sent me a photo of her parents on their wedding day, noting that dad's tie was silver and mum's flowers were pink. I set to work recreating it out of paper.
The 50th wedding anniversary is known as the "golden anniversary". The historic origins of wedding anniversaries date back to the Holy Roman Empire, when husbands crowned their wives with a silver wreath, garland or necklace on their 25th anniversary, and a gold wreath on the 50th.
I created a card with a big gold 50 on it and added a golden background as well. The couple apparently met at UCL (University College London), so I added the university's logo to the card.
My customer told me that she and her siblings loved it!
Around the same time another customer contacted me with a similar request. Her parents were also celebrating 50 years of marriage. She asked me to create a card showing her parents as they are today. They live in Bournemouth, a coastal resort town on the south coast of England, so she wanted a seaside background for the card and sent me the photo she thought I could use.
I created her blonde haired mum and bespectacled dad, adding a big gold number 50 to the card and some gold hearts.
"My parents LOVED their card! Thanks so so much!" their daughter wrote to me, forwarding her mum's delighted message; "I'm overwhelmed at how she captured us so perfectly".
