17 and 18

The new customer who saw and loved the birthday cards that I made for Ilana came back to me once again, this time for a card for a daughter whose birthday was in January. I previously made a birthday card for another daughter back in December. Like her younger sister, this young lady also plays netball. She does gel nails as a hobby for clients, and mum told me that she loves to sleep!
I showed the birthday girl wearing the khaki green shirt that her netball team plays in. I showed her younger sister wearing the same shirt. She has a netball in her hands. Behind her is a dream bubble showing her fast asleep in bed! I added some little bottles of nail varnish and a nail file, to represent her work as a nail technician. If you look carefully, you will see that she also has beautiful pink gel nails! Finally, I added a number 17 to mark her age.
I had another request, this time for an 18th birthday card. This young lady belongs to Shevet Modi'in, a Jerusalem based Scout troop. Mum sent me a photo of her daughter's khaki Scout shirt, which is absolutely covered in badges! The khaki shirt is the same across the world for the Scouts' movement. Shevet Modi'in wear a blue aniva, or neckerchief. Much like the khaki shirt, the use of the anivot is the same throughout the movement. It connects each troop to the entire Scout movement.
Mum told me that her daughter always carries a particular water bottle. Along with the badge emblazoned shirt, I also carefully copied the green water bottle. Finally, this young lady drives her dad's green Mazda 2, which the family call 'Froggie' 🐸. I added the car to her card, along with a big pink number 18.

Spurs, Shopping and Sleeping

A new customer who spotted my cards on Facebook contacted me with a request for birthday cards for her husband and for her sister. Her husband loves Tottenham Hotspur F.C., travelling and debating about whether G-d exists and what he wants from us. He has recently got into playing draughts and he loves dogs. She requested a portrait of him on the front of the card as well.
There were quite a few hobbies to choose from but since my customer wanted extra large cards, I had plenty of room to work with them all.
I have shown Elliot, my customer's husband, wearing a Spurs shirt (Tottenham Hotspur are commonly referred to as Spurs). He is sitting with his dog and and has a football next to him. Behind him is the Spurs club badge featuring a cockerel sitting on a football. I added the little speech bubble saying COYS (Come on You Spurs!), which the fans chant to encourage the team. An aeroplane, globe and suitcase represent his love of travelling and I included a draughts board and some pieces as well. Finally, I suggested using the planets and stars to represent Elliot's interest in G-d and the universe.
The second card was for my customer's sister Abi, who lives in the UK. She loves shopping, sleeping, watching Netflix, travelling and her nieces and nephews.
I have shown Abi sitting cross legged with a shopping bag in one hand and her passport in the other. Let's hope she can use it again one day soon! To her right I added some little photos of her nieces and nephews. A palm tree, aeroplane and globe represent her love of travelling. On her left is a big TV with Netflix on it. Finally, Abi is dreaming of sleeping. I have shown her lying in bed fast asleep!
My customer sent me a lovely message telling me that the cards had been very well received:
"Hi Lisa, my husband and sister loved the cards. Thanks so much for making such beautiful creations."

I Love You Even When You Snore

Mister Handmade in Israel snores. A lot. If I go to sleep before him, then I am okay. He doesn't usually wake me. But woe betide I go to bed later than him! Let's just say I am in for a restless night. This year my Valentine's Day card for him had a snoring theme. "I love you even when you snore" it said on the card. I added some zzzz's for good measure, a moon, some stars and a little red heart in the cloud. Well, it was Valentine's Day. Truthfully, of course I love him but sometimes I want to kill him when he snores 😉. For Valentine's Day I ordered him a Snore Ring. Anything is worth a try! Fortunately Mister Handmade in Israel's Valentine's gestures were far more romantic than mine...
A good friend celebrated her birthday recently, so I made a papercut card for her too. 'D' is her first initial. She loved the card.
If you would like to order an initial card for someone special, you can do so right here.

Richard and Jonny

Sleep is definitely a recurring theme on the birthday cards I make for Mister Handmade in Israel. You can see some of the other cards I have made for him herehere and here. He's really rather good at it you see and is able to fall asleep at the strangest of times. I'm not entirely sure that he has ever fallen asleep eating a bowl of cereal, whilst sitting on the sofa. I used a little artistic license on this but I like it!
I have shown Mister Handmade in Israel wearing his favourite lemon shirt and brown trousers. He is rather fond of the colour brown. He is surrounded by the cushions which are on our sofa (I took a photo of them to match the pattern) and he has taken his glasses off before drifting off to sleep. In one hand he is holding a blue handled spoon from our kitchen and, in the other, a bowl full of cereal - one of his favourite evening snacks.
I added his age to the card in big red numbers (no secrets on this blog!) and some balloons for his birthday too. Comments on my Facebook page ranged from "Oh I like that card!!" to "It's his double!"
Oh, and I made him a cake too. It was delicious!
Jonny also recently celebrated his birthday. "Can you make a card showing Jonny playing tennis with [his friend] M.?" his wife asked me. Apparently they play every week.
Always a stickler for detail, I asked what colour tennis racket he plays with and what clothes he wears when he plays. Apparently this guy likes yellow too, though his favourite shirt is more of a fluorescent yellow than the lemon that my other half favours.
