Elinor and Galia

Elinor's mum asked me to make a special card for her daughter's upcoming 18th birthday. She plays the violin and is a competitive swimmer, so a violin and swimming cap and goggles were requested. Elinor also likes to bake, so mum asked me to include a chocolate cake with decorations. Finally, I was told that she drives a grey seven-seater Mazda 5. I had to look that one up!
Mum was delighted with the card. "You did an outstanding job!" she wrote to me. "Elinor loved the card!"
Galia started her medical studies several months ago. Back then, her mum asked me to create a card somehow featuring the Tel Aviv University Faculty of Medicine. I went one step further and showed Galia wearing a blue medics overall and hung a stethoscope around her neck. Behind her is the Tel Aviv University Faculty of Medicine logo, along with a small pile of medical books, a bottle of pills and a syringe.
"Galia's card is just brilliant" mum wrote to me, then followed that up by telling me that Galia too loved the card.

Milestone Birthdays

Eden recently celebrated her 18th birthday. I have been making birthday cards for her for a number of years. Some of you may remember this lovely story, when she called me at the tender age of 9 to thank me for making such a great card - and it wasn't even from me! This year Mum gave me various themes for her special card. Eden is interested in cosmetics and special effects makeup, she told me. Her favourite brands are Urban Decay, Lorac and Anastasia. Her boyfriend should also appear somewhere on the card, Mum decided.
I have shown Eden with a mascara wand in one hand and a small mirror in the other. She is surrounded by all her favourite things - some examples of special effects makeup, an eyeshadow palette, a brush and a lipstick, the logos of her favourite cosmetics brands, and her boyfriend is there too! A big number 18 marks her age.
Mum told me that she thought the card was fabulous! If you would like to see just some of Eden's previous birthday cards, please click here, here, and here.
The card above was made for a young lady who was turning 21. Her auntie ordered a special card for her big day. Mac makeup, Zara shopping bags and Kinder chocolate bars were requested. I was also asked to add the hashtag #EA21 in big sparkly letters and numbers. This was apparently the tag used for her 21st birthday celebrations.
Finally, this mum and bubba (the Yiddish phrase for a grandmother) celebrated her 70th birthday. Her daughter asked me to create a card showing curly haired mum in the middle, surrounded by all the things that are important in her life. I included a clipboard and stethoscope to symbolise her career as a doctor. The flags of Australia and Israel illustrate where she lives and where many of her children and grandchildren now live, and the aeroplane represents all the travel she does to see them. The framed photograph is of all her grandchildren. I decorated the card with bright red Anthurium, the birthday girls favourite flower. The big red number 70 shows her age.

Once there was a Doctor, a Cabbie and a Lawyer...

A customer of mine asked me to create a special card for her doctor who, she told me, is amazing in every way. He talks, he listens, he never rushes. No other doc comes close, she said. So she wanted a special card to thank him.
She sent me some photos of him but already had the idea in her head that her doctor should be in the centre of the card wearing a red cape. On his shirt it had to say Dr. Flash with a lightning bolt. Around this I was asked to include a pair of lungs (definitely a first for me!), a stethoscope, and the logos for Penn Medicine and NYU School of Medicine. She also found out that her doctor loves Jameson Irish Whiskey and thought it would be fun to include that too.
"Dr. Flash" loved the card. "Thanks so much for your card. It is absolutely wonderful - best ever" he told her.
Another customer asked me to create a card for her cousin who was turning 70. He's a black cab driver in London and likes music, especially jazz. Once again I was sent a photo of the gentleman concerned so was able to create a paper portrait of him next to his cab, which has his name on the registration plate. A golden saxophone formed the letter 'J' of the word jazz and I added a few music notes too.
Finally, a regular customer received some fabulous news that her grandson had earned his Masters of Law with Distinction. She asked me to create a special card to congratulate him on his wonderful achievement. A mortar board and scroll, along with a small pile of books, clearly fitted the bill.
